I favor Romney on domestic policy and Obama on foreign policy but it is no cinch that one of them will be sitting in the Presidency one year hence. Obama should nominate Hillary as VP and Romney should nominate someone who is equally ready to serve as President.

Jimmer could send a wonderful message to the world if he plays the next game and deliberately does not score a single point!

That kind of unselfish gambit just might also serve to open up many more 40 point games and could even elevate his NBA draft position.

In the end, it’s not how much he passes or how much he shoots, rather its about how many good shots he and his teammates take in the particular circumstances. Over the past 4 games, Jimmer is shooting exactly 40% (28 for 70) while averging 17.5 shots per game. During that span, the rest of the team has shot 48.1% (76-158)!

I understand there are lots of important variables to consider such as Jimmer’s ability to get to the free throw line. But you would think the team can do better if Jimmer increases his focus on creating high percentage shots for his teammates and stops settling on creating much poorer shots for himself which have, besides resulting in a low rate of makes, also resulted in 18 Jimmer turnovers in the last 4 games. due to all the double and triple teaming he is getting.

But when you talk about the greatest athlete ever, how about Babe Ruth? Most of his slugging records have survived even the steroid era, despite missing his first 5 productive batting years pitching. Moreover, Ruth had no giant shoulders to stand upon. He reinvented the game and nearly abolished small ball. Before him, no one came close to his achievements. Before Ruth “Home Run Baker” never hit more than 12 home runs.

There is much more to say about Ruth’s remarkable life. He may not only be the greatest althlete ever but perhaps the most underrated.

I find that assertion absurd but there are unlimited examples of our most sophisticated thinkers indulging in the projection of their own feelings on to everyone else. Besides, I am equally irritated when traditional education theorists tell us that reading and understanding the great books is essential to living a full life. We all engage in projection but national leaders are expected to be more circumspect.
